AKO mismo is about YOU…

… making a stand and taking real action for the causes you believe in. Causes that you yourself can truly pursue to make a real, positive difference to your fellow countryman, to your country.

It is for you who still dare to hope that life for millions doesn’t have to be a hopeless battle against problems like poverty, illiteracy, unemployment.

It is for you who believe that not enough is being done about our country’s problems. And that to do right things, you’ll do them yourself.

It is a movement where you can show your patriotism and compassion, and make these traits infectious.

It’s about action that eradicates hopelessness in every Filipino.

How hard will this be to accomplish? Well that will be entirely up to you.
In AKO MISMO you get to choose the cause you wish to pursue. No cause is too small as long as it is a noble one. All we ask is that you make a pledge to do it.

You yourself can pledge anything: from teaching English to your yaya’s kid, to making sure that your barangay is dengue-free.

Or make a pledge to do your part in ending corruption, prostitution, illegal drugs or the inhumane treatment of animals. The choice is yours.

No matter how small, as long as you pledge that you yourself will take action, it’s sure to make a big difference.

Giving more hope for Filipinos to stop merely surviving, and start living. And it starts with you.

MISMO yan.

Linggo. Batangas City. Pinas

Despite my jam-packed summer classes, I still managed to squeeze in a few reads. Here is a rundown of some of the materials I’ve chanced upon reading this summer season. I highly recommend that you devote at least 15 minutes of your time to read. Read on guiz & take your pick for your POST SUMMER READ.

(Clockwise)

1)      TITLE: Pulling Princes (Book One in the CALYPSO CHRONICLES)

AUTHOR: Tyne O’ Connel

BEST READ WHILE LISTENING TO: It’s the way you make me feel by STEPS

SUMMARY: An LOL book about an American teen named Calypso in all-girls British boarding school & her adventure on becoming popular & winning the HRH’s (His Royal Highness) heart.

MY TAKE: it’s an entertaining expose at boarding school life, being an IT Girl & a teenage drama queen. It’s an effervescent chick-lit fantasy especially when it comes to Calypso’s romantic moments with the Prince of England Freddie.

2)      TITLE: Stainless Longganisa

AUTHOR: Bob Ong

BEST READ WHILE LISTENING TO: Burnout by Sugarfree

SUMMARY: Mga kwento ng nagtataeng ballpen sa kahalagahan ng pagbabasa, pag-abot ng mga pangarap at tamang paraan ng pagsusulat.

MY TAKE: Bob Ong’s fifth offering never fails to disappoint its audience. Hilariously intelligent & at the same time easily relatable to almost every Filipino. Paborito ko tong librong ito dahil matagal na akong aspiring writer at muntik ko pa ngang kunin ang Journalism bilang course sa college.

3)      TITLE: You Know You Love Me (A Gossip Girl Novel)

AUTHOR: Cecily von Ziegesar

BEST READ WHILE LISTENING TO: What goes around comes around by JT

SUMMARY: Welcome to New York City’s Upper East Side, a world inhabited by the city’s most fabulous crowd, a world of jealousy, betrayal & outrageous behavior. Its time to fill out their college applications to the IVY Leagues.

MY TAKE: A world ruled by bloodlines & bank accounts, Gossip Girl shows us the lives of the elite & how gossip really spread like wild fire. A true guilty pleasure.

4)      TITLE: The O.C. sequels (The Outsider; Spring Break; The Misfit)

AUTHOR: Based on the television series created by Josh Schwartz & adapted by Aury Wallington.

BEST READ WHILE LISTENING TO: California by Phantom Planet

SUMMARY: Ryan Atwood. Marissa Cooper. Seth Cohen. Summer Roberts. Welcome to the O.C., to the story behind the story. There’s so much more than what you’re allowed to see on TV.

MY TAKE: being a fan of the TV series since its pilot episode down to the finale, it was a great pleasure for me to get to read the series in book context. As they say, “Its not who you are, its who they think you are.”

1)      TITLE: In Style Hong Kong Guide

AUTHOR: Hong Kong Tourism Board

CONTENTS: Hong Kong can be described as the best of the old alongside with the new. This booklet showcases gastronomic & endless choices when it comes to food, shopping & tourist hot spots in this cutting edge city. A must read for travelers & fashionistas alike.

2)      TITLE: Yes! 8th Anniversary Issue (April 2008)

EIC: Jo-Ann Maglipon

CONTENTS: The cover story consists of a 10-hour interview, 24 pages & over 40 photos from the cover girl herself, KC Concepcion. It tackled everything & anything regarding KC & her 23-year old life. Her family, her love issues, her career & her travels.

3)      TITLE: Preview (May 2008)

EIC: Pauline Suaco-Juan

CONTENTS: It features Bayo’s muse KC Concepcion sporting a very short & ultra chic bob while wearing clothes inspired by the Crayola colors & Bayo’s summer collection. Shot by one of my fave photographers Marc Nicdao, the cover photos are like pop art in living neon colors. I super adore the Prada shoes J

A part of a blog entry by Jason Mraz.

"A question, courtesy of my friends at Café Gratitude, The Makepeace Bros.

Would you rather:

Be planted in the ground, rooted like a tree in front of a breathtaking natural landscape for the rest of your life… or,

Travel the world forever under the conditions that you had to leave the city you were in by 2 o’clock the next day and couldn’t return to that city for 3 years; able to see the world but always moving locations at 2pm everyday."

What about you?

Engineering is literally a roller coaster ride for me & for anyone taking it.

Flunking major exams that you stayed up all night & dusk for studying. Drawing plates that constantly need to be enlarged or reduced every Tuesday. Formulas & theorems clogging your mind & leaving you wasted. The usual “bang-head-on-a-brick-wall” moments because of the impossibly hard curriculum.

On the other hand, it also teaches you the value of patience though this may sound like a cliché to most. It gives you an extraordinary sense of liberty after every “hell week”. It gives you a taste of how sweet the bitterness is in hard work & failure combined. Because like a twisted logic game, you have to be keen in order to grasp what part of the paradigms you missed out on. Yes, it is impossibly hard. But impossible is impermanent. You can always push the impossible a notch higher until it can’t go up any longer & its back to being possible. It will really test what you’re truly made of.

In Engineering, I met people from all walks of life. Many have become close friends, all have taught me something in one way or another. And Im thankful J

Im a petite engineering kolehiyala making my way through a male-dominated world. Im growing into the woman I want to be for the rest of my life. Though engineering is sometimes as miserable as hell, it is & will always be a worthwhile trip of a lifetime.

Engineering is packed with frustrating lows. Do you know what it has more of?

Amazing highs & life lessons that will leave you intoxicated. In a good way J

BAZAAR FOR FILIPINOS, BY FILIPINOS

Source : Philippine Daily Inquirer Super Page D4 June , 2007

You’ve all probably heard of it before. It has intrigued you, in fact, that it had sparked a domestic inquiry—what should I really be proud of as a Filipino?

Yabang Pinoy—an advocacy fast-becoming legendary for its unyielding support and campaign to raise consciousness and amplify Filipino people's philosophy and pride through a piece of braided abaca band among other creations—in its budding emergence, now holds a tie that day by day binds one and every Filipino.

And this cool Pinoy revolution doesn’t just stop there. On October 21 at Rockwell Tent, the campaign for Pinoy pride goes to a brand new level with Global Pinoy Bazaar—a one-day fair that brings together both on-the-rise and professional Filipino entrepreneurs who have globally competitive Pinoy products to exhibit.

Living up to the organization’s mission, the bazaar aims to assemble original products—made by Filipinos for Filipinos—that not only further promotes our God-given craftsmanship but also unites Filipinos to build a SUPPORT & BUY PINOY advocacy.

Primary beneficiaries for this project include Yamang Isip library for Barangay Bagumbayan in Daraga Albay, Ecological Livelihood for Barangay Balanti in Tarlac and Barangay Ilaya in Muntinlupa.

For interested participants, entrepreneurs, media partners and sponsors, email yabangpinoy@gmail.com or contact 0917-5277141 or 0917-8151513. For more information,  visit www.yabangpinoy.com.

Yabang Pinoy is a project of Children's Environmental Awareness and Action Foundation (CEAAF) whose thrust is environmental education on the richness of biodiversity in the Philippines.
